Juniors
There are three classes in Juniors. Chestnut Class is for children in Year 3, Willow class for Year 4 and Elder Class for children in years 5 and 6. Each class has around 16 children.
In Juniors children enjoy an enriching topic-based approach to learning which encompasses the core subjects of English, Maths and Science as well as the foundation subjects. Our curriculum incorporates the objectives of the National Curriculum but has been developed to be inspiring and creative. The curriculum builds on the foundations laid down in Infants.
In the juniors, pupils really start on the road to becoming independent and begin to take more responsibility for their own learning. Children learn in an active way which does not rely on the use of worksheets. New concepts are introduced in a practical way to ensure children really understand and can make rapid progress. In foundation subjects the class work together on topics in science and the humanities but have plenty of scope to develop their own interests within the topic. The older juniors often work on individual or collaborative presentations to display what they have learned. This might be an “Open classroom” event or an exhibition such as an “Annan Museum” or a show or concert.
Children can make use of laptops and other technology as appropriate and are able to use our online learning platform Blick! on Microsoft Teams should there be a need to work remotely from home.
“Pupils take pride in their work and responsibility for their own learning. Work in their individual learning journeys shows considerable care and effort.”
