At forest school, Elder class children perfected one of the most important survival skills – fire lighting. They had to collect tinder and different sized, dry twigs; prepare the fire; and light it with strikers. They found that collection and preparation were vital, otherwise the fire would go out. Everyone agreed that fire lighting was very satisfying, and we all felt tremendous pride in our fires.
